We need more Asian friends

Saturday 2- 30-13
What a good day. Other than the fact that we looked outside and IT SNOWED!!! what the heck.. I thought I left Utah behind! So I had no home visit today so I had the morning all to myself and I loved the alone time. I was able to catch up on my journal, clean up the room, organize my clothes and talk to Morgan.
After I talked with Morgan I got all ready for the day and realized I totally missed lunch! Haha oops. O well I wasn’t even that hungry and I have peanut butter here in my room. Its so strange the things you cling onto when you are off away from home. I have always liked peanut butter, Oreos and Twizzlers but its like I am addicted to them here! I have to control myself when I pull out one, then they are all gone after I blink! Sigh... I guess if I come back fat we all know why... too much rice.
Really as far as China is concerned my day didn't start until tonight.
After everyone started to get back from their home visits, I bounced around from room to room waiting to go to the KTV. KTV is a Karaoke place. There are a million of them so when I say KTV it very well could be a totally different place than this one, just for future reference. Anyways, I guess I need to fill you in on the back story on our adventure tonight, Mark got onto the Chinese equivalence of Facebook or MySpace and put out there that there are a group of Americans who want to make some Chinese friends and are down to party. He got about 5 responses that he found credible and talked to Rebecca. Rebecca had the best English and seemed the most friendly so he set up Saturday night we would meet her and her partner and another couple at a KTV! So me and 11 others headed out, caught taxi's and arrived at the KTV. It wasn't too far and we all arrived about the same time. Because mark was the genus that set the whole thing up he led the way as we all filed into the room with our new Chinese friends to Party it up! Over here in China the Karaoke places aren't bars with a bunch of people, you go into a room that has a big TV and lights flashing etc. and couches curved around the wall and you can pay an hourly fee and your group can go sing your hearts out... and that’s just what we did! Haha we had a blast. We sang song after song. It got so hot in that room all our cheeks were rosy and we were definitely sweating but also having a grand time.
After a good hour and a half or so, Rebecca announced that we were going over to go play pool. Turns out she paid for our little KTV showdown and lets face it all our Chinese friends definitely got a good show and probably an even better laugh! The only rough part about it was we got in there and after the first song I felt like I was in a gas chamber after our new friends started to puff their cigarettes.. blasted tobacco companies! I don't understand China. You get me to lay on a brick of a bed because you say it is good for my back, you give me a rice/bean pillow because it is good for my neck, you light jars on fire and suction cup them to my back to release toxins but yet everyone and their dogs smoke cigarettes … pretty sure your cigarettes are gonna kill you before a comfortable bed does... just saying.
Anyways, we all go down and walk across the street. We go up the stairs into the building that looked less than sketchy but whatever, we are in China, it could be considered 5 star for all we know. We entered one big room with about 8 pool tables, Those who played went and paid and paired off to start their games. I didn't feel like playing but I sure did have fun watching! Mark started off playing Rachel's friend Boo Boo. (yes like honey boo boo) and out of 5 games... he lost them all. And mark isn't all that bad at pool either. She wasn't absolutely amazing but she knew what she was doing. I believe after Mark, her next victim was Geoff who lost 0-3 and ended up going the whole night undefeated!
Rachel had amazing English, she used slang in every correct way, she used play on words and I would have guessed it was her first language. Turns out she lives in Pennsylvania. She moved there when she was 7 and lived there for a while and then moved back to China. She is going to head back to America in about 2 weeks. So her story is far from boring and I don't know about her Chinese, but her English was impeccable and she was a really friendly person! She told us to let her know if we want to hang out again to just let her know so our plan to get more Chinese friends? Mission accomplished.
We hit the taxi and headed back to our rooms! I smelled like smoke and yuck so I changed and set my head down on my pillow and that’s the last thing I remember.. talk about a great night!
