Beijing day one part 1 meet Carl

Today we went to the forbidden city in Tiananmen square. There is a big building with a giant picture of an asian dude/ruler on it.  The picture gets changed every 10 years. What was cool about that however is that we got our first encounter with the Asian fascination of Americans. We had a  a hard time keeping up with Carl because so many people wanted to take pictures with us! Haha to be honest I don't think they got the significance of the building either and just wanted a picture of an American! I did learn that the past president I think it is?? His name is “Who” spelled differently so Carl played a trick on us saying Who was the past president. And we would guess and couldn't understand why he was laughing at us and he kept asking who the past one was and then finally he said. Listen, WHO WAS the last president and all our light bulbs turned on! THEN, as if Carl wasn’t having enough fun he decided to tell us that “she” (spelled differently) was the president now. So we started looking around thinking what the heck?! And caught on when Carl started laughing again. Same thing. That's a name. Haha stupid Americans.

After the Square, we took side roads, Carl actually told us that he gave tours during the olympics and helped people and athletes find places to stay and eat. He is so funny and he knows what westerners generally do or don't like etc. and he was VERY protective of us. He answered every question we had and gave us more information on the economy etc in China. He told us good things and bad things that he did or didn’t like .  I don’t think that this trip would be the same without him. In fact, I know it wouldn't be.
